meanwhile, the fda continues its idiocy...

I haven't seen anyone on LJ mention this; did I miss something? The FDA's Women's Health Director resigned over their asshattery about Plan B.

Good to protest it, I guess. But how much does it suck that she didn't have enough consultative power to push the rest of the organization in the first place?

What really, really frustrates me - and should frustrate you - is the stupid idea that Plan B, or any kind of contraception, is an abortifacient. That's the argument people use against it - that it amounts to whacking babies. And it's so not.

Ooh, maybe if all the radical Monty Python fans in the house stood out in front of the FDA singing "Every Sperm is Sacred", they'd get the point through our joke! Or they'd just interpret it as more fundamentalists coming to trump science.

Gah.

Yeah, I heard it in between the All Hurricane All the Time coverage on NPR today.

My favorite term for morning-after pills is from Loudoun Del. Dick Black (R-33rd), who refers to them as "baby pesticide."

If you accept the premise that life begins at conception, the Plan B is baby whacking. Or if you are more enlightened, and know that soul is 21 grams, and thus a living being less than 21 grams in mass can not have a soul, then Plan B is not baby whacking.

The NPR report on the resignation said the FDA was open for 90 more days of public comment. So maybe its time to comment.

Ashcroft said the IUD was tantamount to murder.
