Any of you seen the preview for that "Date Movie" movie? If you have [You can always go watch trailer on the internets if you haven't.], did you think the lengthy fat suit sequence at the beginning was another ridiculous fat joke, a satire of size-acceptance or a satire of fat jokes? Some combination of them all? Something else entirely?

I thought the 'Scary Movie' series were quite good parodies of the latest Hollywood schlock, so my leaning was to see that sequence as... well, meta. And maybe a sign that the confluence of the fat movement and anti-fat bile has reached a new level of cultural relevance where, like everyone knows about it. Fat suits are all over the damned place: people have started using them to bully people into workouts, and to "understand" fat patients - nevermind that, ya know, being fat and wearing sandbags have almost nothing in fucking common. Someone else thinks it's just another fat joke; what do you think?

granted my quicktime wasn't liking it, so what I saw wasn't of the best quality, but to me it still rang of 'isn't it funny she'd dance to this song' sort of mentality, nothing deeper. Then again, I've only read Brigid Jones (years ago) and don't remember the movie bit it is said to be referencing.
