good television
Jun. 18th, 2004 01:23 pmI forgot how good a show Roseanne was. I've spent a bunch of time this week hanging with my girls (aka the cats) and watching re-runs. [On a side note, I've also realized on a re-view of Pirates of the Carribean that little Orlando Bloom is actually kinda hot when standing near His Great Hotness Johnny Depp.]
In college, my roomie and I had a weekly "white trash night" in which we got in touch with our Southern & Midwestern roots by eating fried food and watching the like 3 episodes of the show that were on that night. It's way more reflective of my middle American family than any other television I've seen. I wonder how we got from this good television to today's sitcoms. Is it cable? The press for profits and low cost of "reality" television? I wish I knew more about television as an industry.
Today I was banned from work. Seriously, I had a doctor completely freak me out that I'd be in the hospital immediately if I didn't do exactly what he told me. The power we invest in doctors scares me, even with the friendly slightly insane staff of my happy clinic. Anyhow, as it turns out I have strep throat, but it's somehow complicated by the humidity and heat. So I'm on steroids. And I'm not allowed to go to work. I feel like I've been grounded.
