This meme's a bit overdue, but it had to be pondered.
1. A song from the last record you bought
The last record I bought may have been the Avenue Q soundtrack, in which case "The Internet is for Porn". Or it was The Corn Sisters "The Other Women", in which case, their cover of "Fist City".
2. A blues: not a necessarily a blues record but a song that is labelled (something) blues
There's the obvious, Kenny Roby's "Mercury's Blues", which is both a blues song and labelled something blues.
Rhett Miller's "Come Around" is (obviously) not titled anything "blue", but begins I'm all dressed in blue / and I'm remembering you. And it's kinda sad.
And I think Ryan Adams should get a prize for having the word "blue" in 3 song titles on one non-blues album: Gold includes "Rescue Blues", "When the Stars Go Blue", and some other song with "blues" in it.
3. A song that gets you going in the morning
Eleni Mandell's "No Good No More". Rowr.
4. A song that you think is romantic
Lincoln 65's "Jellyfish". Narf.
5. One of the earliest records that you can remember listening to.
I remember hearing Lennon/Ono's "Double Fantasy" when I was four. And so was Sean in the song, I thought that was so cool.
6. A song that you discovered from a film
Badly Drawn Boy's "The Shining" (it's in that "Get Over It" movie with Kirsten Dunst)
7. A song from your favourite band/artist
Let's assume Neko Case is my favorite artist, in which case "Set Out Running" is hands-down my favorite song of hers.
8. A song from an artist/band that you otherwise don't like, but like this one That Pearl Jam song "Where oh where can my baby be...". I hate Pearl Jam, but the song reminds me of things my dad listened to.
9. A Lullaby.
Simon & Garfunkel's "Kathy's Song"
10. A song that makes you laugh / you find funny
"Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" (Avenue Q)
11. A really good cover version
I still think the Indigo Girls' cover of "Romeo & Juliet" rocks. Others disagree. They're all misinformed.
12. A song that reminds you of school days
Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car". The entirety of REM's "Automatic for the People" and "Monster". Everything from Chess.
13. A song from an artist that you are embarrassed to admit you like
From er, Harlemm Lee (the guy who won the "Fame" show): his recording of "Greatest Love of All"
14. Whatever it is, it's got to be funky
Like, actual "funk" music? Um, I have no idea. There's a song from Qurbani (a movie) on this random Bollywood compilation CD I have that is probably the closest thing to funky in my music collection. Kick ass dance beat.
15. A song for those quiet rainy days
Mates of State's "Everyone Needs an Editor"
16. A song that no matter when you hear it makes you feel good
Peter Murphy's "I Fall with Your Knife"
17. A song with the word "Look" in the title
Uncle Tupelo, "Looking for a Way Out"
18. From a member of the "Dead rockers society"
They're not all dead, but I guess Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" counts.
19. Your favourite Elvis song.
The title song from "Clambake" (so terrible it's funny)
20. Wildcard
Amy Allison's "Put it in a Box".
