Turns out that OMG SPANISH WHO'S ASSIMILATING WHOM national anthem? Totally commissioned by the gub'mint. In 1919. And hey, they've got it on the State Department's website. Four different versions.

It did seem - well, fishy, at best. And all about a couple of high-profile politicians being COMPLETE AND TOTAL IDIOTS at worst.

Just for fun I googled english translations of national anthems for about ten countries (including Cuba, Spain and Mexico). I quickly found englihh versions for all of them. (In case you're interested- they're mostly about fighting tyranny, being brave and dying for your country. Seems to me it doesn't matter all that much which one a person sings.) Then I got bored with it. But it seems logical to me that most national anthems are translated into many, many languages. This is something the neo-cons do just to distract people. There's nothing new or shocking about a spanish version of our national anthem. They just want to get people's xenophobia up. It's like when they got the Christians all upset about the War on Christmas. As if there were armed guards blocking the doors of churches and employers making everybody work Christmas day. Bunch of crap.

This year, let's actually declare war on Christmas. That would be a blast!

I don't think people do these things intentionally to distract us, but I do think they are distractions. I suspect politicians are just as bad as anyone else. War? General fear? Focus on seemingly simple, controllable things! Fixate on anything you think has changed and label change wrong!
