diet drugs - a mini photo essay!

I made hope_persists come with me to the drugstore this evening, and we went down... The Vitamin Aisle! Which is also, it turns out, the wacky diet drug aisle! Good times, huh?

Everything was so yellow and exciting!
Ooh! Ooh! I want to be desired. Of course, apparently so did everyone - that package looked, um... used. Also, hey, flourescent orange pills to go with the yellow ones!
These slim mints come in a super-chunky package. But hey, who doesn't want to fight bad breath with disturbing stimulants? Yummy!
Look! It's TrimSpa! That's apparently the stuff Anna Nicole sells. This is hope_persists doing Anna Nicole's part for her. I think she has a future in teevee, don't you?
This is my favorite. It's supposed to be a feel-good pill that makes the belly fat melt away. hope_persists says it feels like a cardboard box and is not melting her belly fat, even though it's pretty warm out.
This one is also excellent: apparently this drug makes you turn pink and waiflike and dance around all twee-ly. I like the live version better.

Hilarious! I love it. I work at a health food store where we sell mostly "respectable" weight-loss supplements (we try to keep that spangly shit to a minimum) so I am always amused to see all of the craziness they package and sell at drug stores to try and catch the eyes of potential buyers... although the whole "diet supplement" market is insane. No pill is a magic bullet, but people seem to think there is one.

Basically I will sell people things to help with their blood sugar, or to give their thyroid a boost, or whatever, but I'm not going to tell them, "You will lose weight on this." Because they usually don't. And I'm offended when customers assume I *should* be intimately familiar with these diet products just because I'm fat and they think I should be trying to change that fact, but that's another rant. :)
