I agree with you about a lot of that, but I don't agree with you about SRS... I'm not trans myself, but it seems to me that the feelings that would lead a person to get that aren't the same kind of generic body-hate as the other kinds. I understand the worries about what it might reinforce, but I'm really loath to say something negative about it. About the way some people use it as some magical defining "you're this gender or you're not," sure -- but about it? I don't know, because I imagine there are really complicated networks of reasons for wanting or getting it that aren't just "there's only one way to be this gender."
I also think that non-trans people should really be careful talking and thinking about this, because, really, how should we know what the meaning of a particular person's doing that is? I don't know. I'm just a lot more leery of talking negatively about that than I am about someone who really feels she "needs" perkier breasts or something.
