RESOLVED, that the American Library Association affirm the inclusion in library collections of materials that reflect the diversity of our society, including those related to sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation

[Resolution in response to various state politicians wanting to do stupid things like ban books that "condone" The Gay, via feministing.]

Damn straight.

In point of fact, GLBT studies as a discipline got a big boost from librarians' initial willingness to put together bibliographies and indexes of research in the area. Librarianship doesn't always have the best social conscience (though we do try), but we're a shining star in this particular area.
