Something you other liberal types might enjoy: Buy Blue - it's a website that helps you track political affiliations and contributions of companies you do business with. Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] firecat.

The following comment is not a personal attack against you so please don't take it as such. I've perused this website checking out various companies. For example, Jet Blue is listed as a "blue" company. How does this make them any better when they blatantly union bust thus paying employees peanuts? I do realize the whole airline industry has been tanking for years but companies are still in the hands of rabid corporatists trying to make as much money as possible without any regard for the conditions of their workers or environment around them. This does not seem true to the earlier values of their party. In this case, it's really the lesser of two evils.

Why would I think that was an attack on me? :)

And you're right (this is something I was going to follow up with a second post on, actually) - judging the political affiliation of a company exclusively by the contributions they make is a mistake. Example: the company I work for is pink (it has a PAC that lobbies against regulation of our industry, something dems do more of than republicans), but feels ethically liberal with its benefits/policies. There are other companies whose contribution records don't tell the whole story of their political position, too. The Buy Blue peeps say that on their site, though - they're trying to expand their model beyond just political contributions. So the site is just another way to get information about the things you buy - not a handbook for what to buy/not buy.

People get so persnickety over any disagreement, I always feel like I have to begin a post with a qualifer.
