keryx: (fat chicks)

Aside from [livejournal.com profile] missmeridian, do any of you do Netflix? Cause I feel all lonely with only one friend. [I'm dot (at) redpolka.org.]

In other news, I've picked up the keys to new place, bought a lamp, toilet paper and some towels, and moved exactly 9 boxes, 6 of which I also unpacked. And we had all excellent first meeting with the tribe I'll henceforth refer to as the Tri Delts, which would be the all good and cute sorority with a stupid slogan. [As opposed to the Omega Mus and Pi Delta Pis, who were introduced in a much earlier episode.] We're going to have mad fun. And probably a few brawls. It will rock.

For those of you playing the home game, I did not buy a bed today because I slept too late. I'm getting a bed tomorrow.

Weird fat-related issues seem to be coming up for a lot of people lately. And while I've been dispensing advice (as usual), I should also point out my greatest fear for my future Excellent Independent Life. I'm absolutely terrified that no one will ever find me attractive because I'm a Fat Chick, and I'm pretty much convinced that the world is full of people who hate fat so much that no one will ever love me.

And you know what? I don't consider this one iota my problem. I mean, I say it scares me, but what it actually does is piss me off. I'm really hypothetically angry at imaginary people with potentially fat hating ideas. But this is a million times better that I would have been five years ago, when the imaginary people with potentially fat hating ideas would have convinced me that I was a bad person. Cause, you know, fat is a moral failing.

Seriously, though. The world makes me very angry sometimes. I try to remember the impossibly slow pace of social change and realize that all the 'no fat chicks' talk and fetishism (often just as bad) are simply signs of the culture choking on the wholesome but very large and scary pill of fundamental change when it comes to the body. But really. Couldn't we speed this up?

In the meantime, those of you confronting these issues in your own various ways lately, I feel ya. You should go out to San Francisco and meet [livejournal.com profile] fatshadow and [livejournal.com profile] firecat and [livejournal.com profile] originalenid, cause they'll make it all better for at least the amount of time you spend in their presence.

I used to do Netflix till I heard Blockbuster was giving away their soul for Netflix customers. Try a free dvd, two free in-store rentals per month, free 2 months, and a price fix for a year. It was so sweet, I couldn't pass it up. On the downside, Blockbuster is much slower than NF.

it allows you to be totally nosy, and have something to discuss over the water cooler. "did you see what he was renting from netlix?? oh my god!"

okay, maybe not, but i still feel the pull of busybodyness from the whole thing. :)

This is an excellent shift in perception...it's honestly pretty universal...so often women worry 'I'm too fat, I'm too ugly, I'm too honest, I'm too X, no one will love me'

what we need to be is angry that we are in a society that asks us to mold ourselves into someone else's concept of 'perfection.

stupid motto: "Let us steadfastly love another"

hmmm... could we tweak it to "let us steadfastly love one another"? Gives it more of a wink-wink-nudge-nudge feel that seems more appropriate. ;)

i think it will be grand until it collapses in a fiery heap - and then we can toast marshmallows. mmmmm.... s'mores....

Cause we are one seriously wink wink nudge nudge group of women.

I have faith in the fiery heap at least containing itself to a couple of people at a time. The collapse I suspect would be more of a sputter, like everyone running out of time or excitement.
