From a variety of interesting places, Forbes counts down the twenty most important tools in human civilization.

Read the methodology. Doesn't it kinda beg the question: why? I mean, if you're going to exclude complex machines and the essentials of Newtonian physics to the point where you only have a list of 30-some tools that you narrow down to 20, what did we really get out of this exercise of impossibly narrow scope?

Nevertheless, the slide show's a good time.
