[training] more adventures in wow
Nov. 13th, 2005 04:36 pmI've been trying to learn to hoop around my hips in the opposite direction (I automatically went clockwise at first). It's not a recognizable trick, since I'm guessing most people don't know that it's even hard(er than doing your preferred direction).
Anyhow, today I got outside to focus on it, and discovered that my problem wasn't in the mechanics of the hip rotation at all - that's what I thought, that I had some dance-created right side imbalance - and in fact that I just wasn't paying attention to where my knees were to bring it up when it inevitably started falling a bit.
The trick to that, by the way, isn't just to get down low, but to get down low in a spiraling way. I was doing this automatically with the hoop clockwise, but now I can do it counterclockwise, too. Annnnd... I think it's actually the missing key to kneeling & bringing it up on your shoulders that people don't explain in their tutorials & such. Going to have to try that.
PS, bunch of cool hooping videos to be found on hooping.org's film festival. Go look! I can't do anything that impressive. Yet.
ETA - Post made public instead of training-filtered because I think someone out there has to have a photo of me hooping, and I want one to make an icon from. Please email if ya got one.
