As previously posted, we went downtown to Gallery 5 to dance on Friday night. It was. Well, it was really cold outside, and the dancing inside was just - okay - it wasn't our best work. It was fun, though!

The order of events inside was so disorganized - like, clearly anything else going on is supposed to be background for the art, so no shock, but it was just too crowded to be so vague. There was a moment when I was trying so hard to be a decent leader that I forgot I am phobic of crowds - until I was in one. So I got stuck in this big traffic jam at the gallery and nearly gouged holes in my own palms. I don't think even [livejournal.com profile] riotkat standing there with me knew that my brain had kicked into oh please please please please please get me out of here now mode, as talking about it just would have made it worse.

Anyhow, with that and the general disorganization - I suppose I should be glad I didn't freak or even get particularly testy. I did learn a lesson, too - you can have 5-6 people perform with minimal planning, but you can't do it with 10. 10 people need a harder plan. I don't think anyone in the audience noticed, but we were sloppy, and that's why - the last couple of gigs, we could be brilliant with no plan because we were fewer in number. We need to work up some set structures for music & drill formation cues. (Guess what we're gonna do Wednesday, kids?)

Saturday, on the other hand, was so good it defied description. Even setting the place up was a good time. Things I did on Saturday: actually managed to do 75% of this crazy kinetic chain (after only two face plants in the grass), lost my fear of my drum & played for fire spinners, achieved shoulder hooping for an entire 2 seconds, learned a bunch of poi basics, hitting myself in the mouth (the worst, most painful hit) only once, taught a dance class off the cuff based on concepts rather than just moves. My body got so fabulously used!

The best bit, though, is the sense of a true community - beyond simply bellydance (although, come to think of it, the event was pretty lightly attended by dancers) and into a broader artistic world. That I really really loved. I've been saying all weekend how beautiful everyone is & how I can't wait to do it again.

Yes.

And, in other 'April becomes a giant hippie' news, I'm working on growing out my hair so that I can put it in pigtails. That means I can camp without spazzing about my hair.

So, maybe not a giant hippie.

That means I can camp without spazzing about my hair.

Can you wear it in a bandanna until then? (Not the entire time until then; then you would be a hippie. But I mean, when camping.)

That wouldn't actually hide the great insanity that is my hair slept on & not blown-dry, sadly. A full-head turban or headwrap would be in order.

Although my stylist forecasts pigtail-ready hair by June, which is conveniently when I need to be ready to camp!

I didn't notice at all, just thought you were annoyed with the lack of organization which I was as well.
