I remember hearing or reading awhile back about someone doing an activist event where a bunch of fat women basically hung out on the street asking passersby the age-old question "Do I look fat?" - I imagine the reactions to that were quite interesting.

I wonder if it changed people? I mean, I'm sure it affected the people who did the event; I wonder about the people who saw it.

And I also wonder what would happen if it were a more blended group gender- and size-wise. I wonder enough that I'm tempted to organize such a thing. It's the sort of mixed activism/social experiment that I can really get behind. Do you need a permit to stand on the street in a marginally organized fashion and ask people if you look fat?

In other only vaguely related news, dates (September 1-3) have been announced for this year's NOLOSE, and they're okay dates for me. Anyone want to come with me?

I love that idea! I would love to have found out more about it and what kind of results there were. I think you should go for it! And if you can post about it, all the better. I know there'd be a ton of people who would prolly be willing to help you out.
What an interesting concept.

as long as its not more then 20 people ( i think) you do not need a permit. you also have to be under a certain noise level and cant be blocking pedestrians, cars and cant be on medians. if you are interested in doing something like this im all about it.

Yeah, I think it would be interesting & radical in a way that maybe people would relate to - on a nice day when people were outside somewhere like Carytown (or egads, one of the new malls - though there you'd have the whole private property thing to contend with).
