So, South Dakota just did in fact pass the law I thought they'd no chance of passing, outlawing pretty much all abortion, with prison terms for doctors and such. Ugh. I realize the state has only like one abortion clinic, anywhere, but still. Nauseating.

On an idealistic level (say, imagine that states and communities were simultaneously isolated and completed connected and everyone could gather according to their values anywhere they wanted), I'm actually not utterly opposed to states having individualised rules like that, but the thing is - this becomes a horrid national precedent. Now, and when it goes to court. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

*crosses fingers*
Cause that's so helpful.

Maybe we should have sent our Maymont biting-bears up to South Dakota where they could have done some good.

I am. Humans don't have a whole lot of choice about what state or country we end up in. Human rights need to be guaranteed in all of them. And if that entails disrespecting the anti-human-rights beliefs of some "cultures," I say, so be it.

I remain stupidly optimistic and incorrigibly idealistic about the US Supreme Court. They'll hold the line on Roe v Wade.
