[Poll #712921]
I knew a woman once who theorized that all women would expect a baby, and all men would expect beer. She also claimed to be a feminist while holding a variety of other less comical (but equally sweeping) stereotypical beliefs about gender.

For some reason I thought of her baby-in-a-bag question this morning.

Actually, I'd probably think "trash".

Entirely possible. Should've added that as an option.

That does seem rotally stereotypical.

Does that not make me a man to think that there were groceries in the bag? {sarcasm}OH no my entire existence is a lie! {/sarcasm}

Oh, yeah... absolutely. Only gender-neutral people think there'd be groceries in a grocery bag. Real men see beer. :)

It was, by the way, one of the most absurd things anyone's asked me - I think that's why it stuck in my head for so long.

i clicked groceries--but my first instinct, in nyc, was trash. lots of people use grocery bags in litle trashbins as binliners in our little apartments.

I just picked "baby" cause it was funnier. I'd expect random crap that I don't want.

What if it's a baby and beer? Is the baby uncomfortable?

Well it's probably drunk in any case.

I don't think a baby could open the beers on its own.

I need to know what the bag is made of before I can commit to an answer. Plastic? Brown paper? PVC?

I believe it's brown paper.

Why would this bag be made of PVC?

It might be a shopping bag that they've bought, or one of those 10p 'bags for life' they sell in the supermarkets here.

If I see this bag in the US I think it's trash. But if we're in the UK I think it's a baby, because brown paper bags are hardly ever used over here and so somebody has clearly gone taken trouble to find a bag which won't suffocate the content. Actually, though, more likely to be kittens or puppies than a baby. So, yeah, rubbish or kittens.

Who the fuck puts a baby in a grocery bag, anyway?

I think option A) should be changed to "A tiny corpse".

You know, I said the same thing when the question was first asked of me many years ago.
