virginia's anti-gay-marriage amendment
May. 11th, 2006 07:38 pmWhere can I go to find the damn vague text of VA House Joint Resolution 41? I'm guessing it's got another description in the state legislature's happy list o' stuff they passed. I can't find it. Maybe they're hiding it? I mean, I'd be ashamed of myself for associating with something like that.
And I just signed up with the Equality Virginia folk to be a pollster on primary day to talk about the thing. Figure I should at least have read it all.
The EV people taught me an important lesson about getting people involved. I am easily suckered by someone nice calling me and asking me personally to help, and I bet lots of other people are, too.

"That only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this Commonwealth and its political subdivisions.
This Commonwealth and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance, or effects of marriage. Nor shall this Commonwealth or its political subdivisions create or recognize another union, partnership, or other legal status to which is assigned the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities, or effects of marriage"
