two things that smell good

keryxMy white kurta was hard to put in the wash this morning, despite having all sorts of spots on it. It smelled like incense and clove and dirt and lake and coffee and my friends and lime and me. It was a good smell.
I am downloading Cat Stevens songs because I was listening to Elliot Smith because I just watched Thumbsucker which is aurally moving. And ohmygod, I remember exactly how these albums smelled on vinyl, in the cabinet under the stereo in our apartment in Navy housing when I was six and I first was allowed to put the big records on the big record player. And how they still smelled the same when we'd rarely open the cabinet for an album when I was in my teens, what a delight it was to take out the vinyl and play it like a relic.
