The new, simpering face of Torrid.com.

For those of you who are permitted by arbitrary sizing guidelines to shop in "regular sized" stores, Torrid is the fat cousin of Hot Topic. It's general modus operandi is punk, rockabilly and goth clothes for young fat women. They sell cute stuff, and I have a lot of it.

The website used to be all reds and purples and had a very youthculturey vibe, not unlike the Hot Topic. And now it looks an awful lot like a Cosmo (the magazine and the drink both!). I suspect it's supposed to appeal to the late-twenties folk like me who are the store's big customers, but it just makes me sulky.

Torrid = Kelly Osbourne - attitude.

Not that I'm much of a Kelly Osbourne fan, but you know. That was my immediate reaction upon viewing their site. Blech!!

Ptooee! I think Kelly Osbourne's kinda cute. The old site was like her a bit, too, but pre-airbrushing and with attitude.

Yeah, she is cute, I do have to agree with you there. It's just the spoiled celebrity aspect of her personality I don't care for. But! If ye olde Torrid was more like the pre-MTV superstardom Kelly, then it must've been pretty rad. I wonder what the hell happened?? It seems like the punk rocky/gothy stuff comes in an even smaller range of sizes than a lot of the other (incredibly tiny) stuff that most (fucked in the head)clothing manufacturers consider "average", so that reeks double duty, then. Shame on them!

OK, it might be bad, but I might also have to go there and get these pants.

No, no... those are good pants. And it's good that they haven't really changed what they sell, just the look of the site on which they sell stuff.

Also, there's a store in Bethesda, so you don't even have to use the website.

That's rather disappointing. I can't remember what the site used to look like, but really now. Is it just the presentation affecting my perception or has their clothing line changed significantly as well? I seem to remember it being more goth/punky. Also, has it always been an exclusively female line and it was only Hot Topic that carried men's wear?

Torrid's never carried guys' clothes, which is kinda odd. But the DO seem to have added "normal" trendy clothes to the goth/punk/hellkittenish stuff they've sold in the past. I hope they're NOT getting rid of the stuff they started out selling. That would suck.

I have loads and loads and loads of pink in my wardrobe. I think what I object to is the repainting of the whole vibe in that wishy-washy pink. I might feel different about, say, NEON pink. ;)
