Fat helps heart attack, but don't be fat anyway! from BFB.

There's really nothing I can add to Paul's brilliant piece of snarkery. Suffice to say, his wrapup of the Duke study that showed fat people fared better after heart attacks (though reporting on it all warns people that FAT IS STILL BAD) is hilarious.

Do you read junkfood science blog? She's always posting articles about the latest fat study and the crazy way it's reported. There was one done more recently regarding the elderly and heart attack recovery and it showed the same results- fat people did better. Despite the fact this sort of result has been found in previous studies- it's, of course, called a "paradox".

Yeah, I read it on LJ feed, I think.

And seriously EVERY TIME the word "fat" occurs in any kind of health study, the message delivered is that Fat Is Bad. Fat reduces cancer risk? Sure, but FIB. Fat helps survival rates for heart attacks? Still FIB. It really has reached an absurd point, where FIB is so engrained that we have to make sure we at least mention it when we're saying that, as it turns out, fat is sometimes GREAT.
