I haven't seen Sere since I left for DC yesterday afternoon. Disappearing for an evening wouldn't be out of character, but 24 hours is virtually unheard of.

So I guess the training mat things I ordered for the doors are a moot point. I assume she ducked out the front door while we were heading out, and she's not in the yard anywhere. That is REALLY WEIRD. She is not particularly adventurous.

She's very good at hiding, so the chance of a neighbor seeing her or even animal control picking her up without a cat trap is pretty low. She's not wearing a collar or anything, either.

ETA: Cat found. I kept hearing mewing noises if I went into the living room, so I went under the house. She had squirrelled her way under the crawlspace door, then burrowed under the foundation & floor. And? The vicious little monster ran back to her hiding place after she saw that the place I was carrying her to was outdoors. She seems okay now that she's back in the house, but we're both dirty and gross.

Hey, at least she's back and I'm not afraid of my crawlspace anymore.

Pronounced like Sara but with short e's instead of short/long a's (it's Serendipity, but it's hard to wander around the hard calling a 5-syllable name).

And she was in the crawl space! So, that was a pain in the ass, but she's safe & home.

Oh, and? She's totally walking around like "whatevAH, I LIKE spending the night hungry in the crawl space. It's my favorite thing ever!"

Haha! Eccentric beasts. I'm glad she was so near! Serendipity's pretty. My Dad named two of our cats: Stinky and Goober. Try running around looking for those cats! We just let them come home whenever they wanted to, to avoid the humiliation.

Stinky and Goober? HA! Maybe they're running off to look for more dignified names.

I don't think she could figure out how to come home, thus the muted mewing as she wondered how it was possible that I was walking around and calling to her from on top of her.

So glad you found her! I feel responsible. I left the door open when we went back in to look at the 80s skirts. I totally didn't think about the cats. Very inconsiderate of me. (If mine go outside, they don't lurk too far, and I need only to give a stern "Hey" and they run back in the house.)

So, since Sere's been found, does that mean you'll still get more kittehz?

I'm not used to having to check that a cat hasn't gotten out, either - cause I'm sure she was right out the front porch skulking around & just realized too late that we were gone and she was stuck outside.

On the up side, she didn't even express interest in the upstairs porch when I went out a few minutes ago... though that might not last.

That's the first place all my cats ever have run when they escape. Viva le crawlspace! Today crawlspace, tomorrow the world!

The first time I moved with my cat, she went behind the furnace a few days later. Fortunately, it was summer.

One of the first times we moved, Banana spent an entire day on a tiny ledge inside a bricked-up fireplace. We locked her in an empty room & she disappeared. She even managed to sit in a way that hid the glare of her eyes if you looked in the fireplace.
