In case you weren't there, we had a massive baby shower at my house yesterday. I mean massive. There was a point where my crowd phobia got triggered in my own house. [Which is like. A really. Weird. Feeling.] There were many instances of bizarre intersectionality and a few of people putting the past aside in favor of love and tribe. Everyone seems to have tried their best to be gracious and helpful. There was music. There was dancing. There were kids and parents and soon to be great-grandparents and presents. There was... juggling? That's new.

This is our village.

So. Yeah. I think that was a success.

Those of you who came, especially those of you who set up or were wandering the house tidying up (though most of them aren't on LJ): Thank. You.

After that? I'm serious, [livejournal.com profile] doktor_jess and [livejournal.com profile] goodgothgirl - sure, have a wedding at my place. You know, after the backyard gets less homely. Anyone else I love have a life event to celebrate? Cause I was thinking last night that being the custodian of my house as it approaches 100 means more than just protecting the [Gah! 93 year old. Just thinking about it sends me into an anal retentive home owner tizzy.] floor and fixtures. It means the house needs to hold experiences. Even the ones so overwhelming I need to get out of the house to process them.

Also. Apparently I really want to be living here in 2016 for 100th birthday party. That's... a ways off. The deepening of my relationship with Willie is a topic for another post.

STILL processing. Thanks for rolling with it, even when things took on a life of their own and grew to epic proportions. :)

p.s. when ya coming over? I have practice from 11:30 to 4:30 - you can come over before then or maybe we could have dinner after?

I didn't roll flawlessly, but at least I rolled. You did pretty good yourself keeping it cool.

Tribes. They're brilliant and awesome and crazy and infuriating. :)

Thank you thank you thank you! I told Last night and she started to tear up just like I did. Then of course she got into insane planning mode while I slept on the couch.

We were thinking sometime in September if that's ok with you.

Absolutely! Oooo... maybe we could tie it into gay pride. Or my birfday (which is the 30th).

I am totally down with this plan.

PS - I see no reason ANY date in September wouldn't work. So you kids think about when and what you want to do. Will there be a chupa?

So, things that are outdoors - in the spring, I plan to get a proper privacy fence, and to do some more planting. If there's money left, I'll put in a stone path. In September, the current fence is lined with morning glories - I'm going to try to preserve those & you'll have a beautiful backdrop for outdoory stuff. Eee! So exciting!

And if you decide you don't want to do this at my place, you totally don't have to. But my old house is yours if you need it.

We actually have a wedding to go to in September, so we haveto find the save the date card to figure out when to have ours.

There will most definitely be a chupa. I think we had the chupa holders picked out, but I can only remember three of them right now.

Your already aweseome back yard sounds like it will be even more awesome.

Thank you so much. We've been wondering for months how we were going to afford the wedding, and you just handed it to us on a silver platter.

You had me at CHUPA IN MAH YARD OMG SQUEE.

If I'd realized that a venue was such an impediment, I'd have offered months ago. I'm very excited to be able to help. Home ownership is so cool!

We'll be using my dad's tallis (prayer shawl) as the canopy.

Venue and food were going to be our biggest expenses, potluck and house party take care of both of those.

The jury is still out on the number. Lets just say that over the years I have amassed a lot of people who want to see me married.

I suspect this translates as "Lea has a perfectly reasonable number on her list; Jess wants to invite 450 people". Am I right?

My goal is to hold invites down to no more than 80 people showing up. And that was before I saw that crowd phobia got you in your own house! :)

I counted our families, wedding party (very small, 2 people) and you, and came up with 24 right off the bat. That's scary. I'm holding my number of invites down by planning a reception in NY for my friends up there and only inviting a few out-of-town friends. I have no idea who Jess might have added since I started the list ...

The upside to a September thing vs. a January thing is that, assuming it's not raining, people can be both outside and inside. We could comfortably get 100 people outside, weather permitting.

You are UTTERLY AMAZING! I have always wanted an outside, backyard wedding -- that's what I've seen in my head whenever I've gone there over the years. And to have it in the home of a friend, where other awesome events have happened -- SQUEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aww. You're welcome. It makes me happy to help you kids be happy.

I think I'm going to start a charitable program for lesbians in need of places to host their life events. ;)
