more weekendy stuff

The neverending email stream from Ms. Dipshit, as
cavlec so eloquently termed her, is going to drive me insane if I continue to read it.
Suffice to say, it is mind-blowingly absurd to assume that other people are misunderstanding you when they question or disagree with you, but to say "it's just my little old opinion la dee la" when you flame them like that Carson guy from Queer Eye lighting an exhaust hose filled with gasoline. Dude, she's running around calling people out left and right. Egads.
We've all encountered these people, right? I always want to do something other than step away in disgust, but it just doesn't seem to work. Speaking back only feeds their insanity.
I don't live near the (aforementioned recently turned accursedly pink) Torrid, but nevertheless occasionally venture there for clothing.
Which I did this weekend, to my own great delight, particularly as the store has not gone totally pink and silly and many things were on sale.
What I acquired: a silly but very cute black and pink sundress, another dress not on the website with a very Wednesday Addams vibe (buttons, white collar and sleeves, black dress), a simple casual-friendly black pleaty skirt, a black sorta Esther Williamsy swimsuit, a polkadotty shirt that will finally complete the crazy outfit that my cherry applique skirt wants to be, and a pair of ruffled underpants.
I was tempted to buy a strapless dress (it was very cute), but have never been able to find a strapless bra that could both stay up and accomodate breathing - so, no thank you, cute red dress.
The satisfying thing about the Torrid is that it's totally not work clothes. It's rebellious, functionless shopping. You don't buy things there for any reason other than the pleasure you'll get in wearing them.
Which is, by the way, rather remarkable in even being an option for us fat folk. The vast majority of fat women's clothing is just plain matronly, and it used to be much, much worse. If you want to wear formless and/or stretch clothes designed for amazons, by all means feel free. I'd like a polkadotted pencil skirt, thankyouverymuch. And it's nice to know I could have one.
So, yeah, the Torrid. One of those rare contexts in which shopping can be empowering.

Date: 2004-07-13 02:54 pm (UTC)I'm a DD cup (and the Princess is a G, bless her!) and I've recently been brave enough to start wearing strappy/ strapless things aided by a top-of-the-range Berlei bra, and lots of toupee tape (which is clever stuff and WORKS!) - well worth giving it a try (although i recommend a practice first!)

Date: 2004-07-13 04:27 pm (UTC)I don't often wear caftans, I admit, because that's not the right kind of drape. But I do have one or two, and I like the ones I have.
I got plenty shape, thanks. I don't need my clothes to shape me; I shape *them*.
