I got a start on the back garden today!

Well. Technically, this afternoon I interviewed a garden coach. I'd been thinking "gosh, if only I could get someone to start the garden and tell me how to use it"... and? The local garden co-op will do that! You have to, you know, pay them, but it's a lot cheaper than landscaping (though perhaps less conventionally beautiful) and more useful. We're going to start setting up beds and build a cold frame this weekend.

Later we'll do summer vegetables and start some fruit trees. Meanwhile, the figs and grapes I bought thinking they'd stay dormant in my house until planting time are absolutely the opposite of dormant. One of the grapes is plotting to take over the kitchen. I suspect it's recruiting the other plants as comrades, Mme Defarge style.

Garden!

What do you want to grow Tupelo? And I could probably help you for free with some small basic crops. After I graduate in 60 days I will probably be free to help set up larger fall crops.

I can grow alot. And then there is always canning. Homemade tomato sauce from your own homemade grown tomatoes, peppers, onions, and spices. Yum

Ideally I would like to grow things we like to eat. But for starters anything easy and consumable is welcome. Some potential favorites would be tomatoes, hot chili peppers, most fruits, squashes, um.....what's good in this climate?

Ooh! We could COORDINATE who grows what. No sense in everyone growing a gajillion buckets of squash when we could divide & have someone growing beans, someone else doing cucumbers, etc. Like our own co-op!

Dude! I just said to Lug that we should form a growers co-op and swap. Those who don't work, don't eat!

I think this is a fantastic idea. Do you know already what you'll grow this year? Because I'll come up with a complementary list as we pick out my plants.

I have frost peas that I am about to put in the grown for climbing tomorrow. Should be a few weeks and then I will have pounds and pounds of peas. I have pre-started roma tomatoes but those will take awhile for anything. Also started is 20 strawberry plants and blueberry and blackberry bush. I will also probably grow lettus, spinach, and summer squash. Already have a lot of herbs started.
