Someone emailed me yesterday and jokingly asked when my book was coming out. Made my freaking week.

If you were going to write a book, what would it be about?

ETA - I think mine would be largely editorial. Possibly a more organized version of the stuff I post here, tailored into a sort of political self-help book. Or a research study on class, stress & health. Or I could write about doing art off the side of your desk. Short answer: I don't know.

it would be about an alternate universe where the established ruling class was women, not men.

or it would be a hothead-paisan-ish revenge fantasy.

except i can't write fiction for shit, despite what i thought when i was 13 and wanted to write lush fantasy novels about plucky (hot teenage male) orphans that turn out to actually be valiant warriors.

oh, my. you just totally reminded me of that godawful yet fantastically funny sci-fi novel we kept forcing people to cowrite with us in middle school. i hope you still have that thing. or maybe i don't...

hmm. sometimes it's not clear whether it's a good or bad thing to have someone around who remembers what you did in 7th grade and isn't obligated to love you unconditionally.

You know, I'm not sure, but you really should write a book!

Either that, or we need to talk Bitch into publishing you. One of those two.

Oh, I still have it. This is me, the pack rat who never lets go of anything. I also have a giant sack with every note ever passed to me in a class or junior high school hallway. Not kidding. Unless my parents threw it away which I'm pretty sure they would not do, since they enjoy mocking me about it WAY too much.

As if after all this time I'm going to start settig a bunch of conditions? :)

Also, I don't know why it didn't occur to me that the book could be non-fiction.

Of course you have it... what was I thinking? I think in honor of turning 30, sometime in August next year we should get really drunk and have our friends stage a reading of that thing.

obviously, mine would be "prostrate to the higher mind: [insert scathing subtitle]," co-written with pycckugrrl. it would include many maps/figures/charts, and a whole section on alternate trajectories, i.e. getting a freakin' job, etc.

Well, so far it's been how to use computer products. People keep telling me I should write a book about polyamory. I'd like to write some speculative fiction.
