Maintaining a grand tradition of marketing asshattery, PETA tries to equate feeding meat to kids to child abuse. Fat hate aside, the dismissiveness with which these folks clearly view domestic violence ought to embarrass PETA members.

What do they want, a counter billboard? 'PETA marketeers crushed by fat people - just another domestic dispute'?

Dude. I am so ashamed I was a PETA member in high school. I mean, sure, animals have feelings and stuff, but come the fuck on.

Hey, don't feel bad. I was a member, too. My parents still are, though mom may be pretty pissed when she sees that PETA thinks child abuse is a big fat joke (pun intended).

I hate PETA so much. They do a disservice to animal rights activists everywhere.

God damn it, I hate PETA. The animal rights movement has enough problems with credibility as it is, and they make things so much worse with their unsubstantiated claims and stupid ad campaigns that make claims that no one would say are logical.

And the anti-fat bias pisses me off so much, especially because I am a fat vegetarian.

Here we go. Fat Vegetarians Against PETA. I'd join.

Only it needs a snappier acronym than that. Any ideas? Maybe something recursive...

I pay no attention to PETA any more because it's clear that all they want is attention; they don't care whether it's good or bad attention and they don't care to make reasoned arguments for vegetarianism.

The only thing I've done is to buy one of the cute "Pitbulls for Educating Tyrannical Animal-rights Activists (PETAA) stickers from BADRAP (a pit bull rescue and education site), because PETA has advocated euthanizing all pit bulls and eliminating the breed. This is part of PETA's long-term goal of eliminating all companion animals (it considers keeping animals as pets inherently oppressive to animals).

My husband was a vegetarian for years (not anymore- started craving meat when he had to go on blood thinners) but he actually hid his vegetarianism for awhile because he hates PETA so much and did not want anyone to think he was associated with them. They really do suck. Seem like a bunch of women and fat hating fringe high school boys who work hard to be anti-social and shocking so everyone with think they're more interesting than they really are.

Hey that's about my town!! Odd. I was a veggie for years, until I decided to have a child. Studies showed that it was better to be getting b vitamins and mine were quite low due to the no meat factor. And I was a fat veggie until I started exercizing, so I'd be able to join your group. Course, now I'm a meat eater, but the idea is still there. PETA seems so very over the top that it's hard to take them seriously.

Yep. Saw it. Registered what is now sadly "the usual" - complete disgust for PETA's tactics on every front. Sigh.
