back! back! back to school!
Sep. 10th, 2004 10:59 amThis morning was the first time this week I left for work just at the right time to catch all the high schoolers walking and waiting for the bus.
Many of them are still at that "first day of school" stage, in that they leave home only after selecting an outfit and drying their hair (except for the gothkids with their Victorian sense of preparation, they get wetter looking and gradually appear to be wearing their pjs as the year goes on).
I never, ever want to go back to school. School sucks. High schoolers, I honor you. Anyone who tells you these are the best days of your life is lying, believe me.
Does anyone have any idea how school bus stops get planned? It seems very odd to me that there are 5 stops within 5 blocks near my house, but none in the mile immediately surrounding the school. The sense is not being made for me here.

Date: 2004-09-10 04:02 pm (UTC)It wasn't so bad for me directly as I lived about 2 blocks away, but for my friends that lived at the edge of that mile it was really stupid. No public buses came down that way either.

Date: 2004-09-10 04:21 pm (UTC)When I was a freshman, I lived like two blocks from the edge of the radius, and probably *could* have walked back a bit to get the bus. Frankly, however, I hated the idea of taking the bus and vastly preferred walking every day, since that's what I'd done every other day of school for the preceding nine years. Then over the winter break of freshman year we moved to the other side of town, so I did start taking the bus. Unhappily.

Amen!
