as if you really needed another reason...
Nov. 29th, 2004 01:55 pmVictoria's Secret wastes trees, among other things.
Duh. They send zillions of catalogs and don't recycle. Bad. [Note that you can request they not send you stuff, but it's irresponsible to put the effort all on the consumer, dude.] They're also a contributor - an iconic one, at that - to the idea that "sexy" and "beautiful" are things that every woman wants/needs to be and that one can buy.
And they're one of few places that make bras to reliably fit me. I hate that.

Date: 2004-11-29 08:16 pm (UTC)and yep, some good points. still largely an evil place, unfortunately. if they'd just show a little pudge or a few small breasts here and there to tie themselves back to real women...

Date: 2004-12-02 07:02 pm (UTC)1) They don't hire girls who don't fit their clothing. When you consider that VS doesn't sell (in their stores) any size above a 38D in most of the fashions, and even the Second Skin Satin only comes in up to a 40DD, this does tend to limit the size of the workforce there. Thin is definitely preferable.
2) The corporate culture encourages cattiness, backstabbing, and all the worst behaviors of an all-female (or almost all-female) group who work in close quarters for very low pay for long periods of time.
3) When I worked there, I was listed as part-time but worked overtime every single week. Being listed as part-time meant that I got no benefits, but they could work me as a full-time employee.
4) They took money from my paycheck for a stock-purchase program I signed up for when I started; I don't own an VS stock, but they took the money for it.
5) When I worked there during the holidays, they kept gravely ill employees out on the floor. I wasn't the only one who this happened to, but I can distinctly remember the utter pain of having a UTI so horrible that I was running a fever of over 101 degrees, wandering around the store in dress-code-mandatory pantyhose, delirious from fever, pain, and medication, and being told repeatedly that I would have to finish out my twelve-hour shift or be fired.
